Holistische ondersteuning van de microbiota-darm-lever-as
In de brochure leest u meer over een holistische aanpak waarin via diverse routes orthomoleculaire ondersteuning geboden kan worden. Niet alleen een gezonde voeding dat het microbioom versterkt is van belang; ook goede slaap, stressreductie, beweging en leefstijladvies, aangevuld met specifieke nutriënten, kunnen de darm-lever-as ondersteunen.
Binnen de Traditionele Chinese Geneeskunde (TCM) wordt de lever verbonden met het hout-element en de vrije stroom van Qi. De dunne darm correspondeert met het vuur-element, de dikke darm met het metaal-element. Yoga, massage, meditatie, acupunctuur, EMDR en orthomoleculaire therapie kunnen daarbij effectief worden gecombineerd.
Microbiota, darmslijmvlies en darmepitheel
Het darmmicrobioom is sterk geassocieerd met voeding en nutriëntinname. Dit beïnvloedt de diversiteit, samenstelling en metabole activiteit van bacteriën. Bij leveraandoeningen en dysbiose wordt een vermindering van de totale diversiteit en een ongunstige verschuiving van bacteriegroepen gezien.
Deze veranderingen kunnen gevolgen hebben voor het darmslijmvlies en het darmepitheel, ze kunnen het immuunsysteem ontregelen en leverfuncties nadelig beïnvloeden. Dysbiose in de darm kan oxidatieve stress in de lever veroorzaken, wat verdere dysbiose kan aanwakkeren. Ook kan ethanolproductie in de darm toenemen en kunnen TMAO en LPS bijdragen aan inflammatie in de lever.
Biotica, magnesium en glutamine ondersteunen een evenwichtig microbioom en een gezond darmslijmvlies, wat op zijn beurt de levergezondheid ten goede kan komen.
Biotica
Pro-, pre-, post- en parabiotica helpen de samenstelling van het microbioom, de productie van mucus en de integriteit van het epitheel te verbeteren, en het immuunsysteem te reguleren.
- Probiotica verbeteren tight junctions en helpen daarmee de barrièrefunctie te verbeteren.

Magnesium
Magnesium kan via verschillende mechanismen een beschermend effect op de lever uitoefenen. Het is een cofactor voor menselijke en bacteriële metabole processen en kent een belangrijke interactie met het microbioom.
- Magnesium kan het metabolisme van bifidobacteriën moduleren en de productie van indool-3-carbonzuur stimuleren.
- Magnesium werkt als cofactor voor antioxidatieve enzymen, verhoogt glutathion en verlaagt ROS-niveaus in de lever.

Anti-pathogene kruiden en nutriënten
Verschillende nutriënten hebben anti-pathogene eigenschappen en kunnen bijdragen aan een gezond en gebalanceerd microbioom, darmslijmvlies en epitheel.
- Knoflook heeft antibacteriële, antiparasitaire en antifungale activiteit.
- Carvacrol, uit onder andere tijm, oregano en rozemarijn, remt de groei van pathogene bacteriën en schimmels.
- Gember, zwarte komijn, citroengras en laurier hebben antibacteriële en antifungale eigenschappen.
- Olijfblad, propolis en pau d’arco hebben antibacteriële eigenschappen.
- Enzymen zoals amylase, bromelaïne, papaïne en serrapeptase kunnen helpen bij het afbreken van biofilms van pathogene bacteriën en schimmels.
Mycologie
Paddenstoelen, waaronder agaricus blazei, shiitake, cantharel, cordyceps en oesterzwam, zijn rijk aan bèta-glucanen. Deze polysachariden hebben een prebiotisch en antipathogeen effect.
- Polysachariden uit paddenstoelen verhogen de diversiteit van het microbioom en kunnen aantallen lactobacillen en bifidobacteriën verhogen.
- Het microbioom kan polysachariden uit paddenstoelen afbreken tot korte-keten vetzuren en andere metabolieten, met gunstige effecten onder andere op de levergezondheid.
- Polysachariden helpen het darmepitheel te herstellen, het aantal tight junctions te verhogen en de mucusproductie te ondersteunen.
- Bèta-glucanen hebben ook systemische effecten op de lever en het immuunsysteem.
Immuunsysteem
Naast verbetering van het microbioom, het darmslijmvlies en het darmepitheel is ondersteuning van het immuunsysteem en vermindering van inflammatie belangrijk voor een goede metabole gezondheid. Vitaminen en mineralen, waaronder vitamine A, C, D, E, selenium, zink en magnesium, spelen een rol in het mucosale immuunsysteem en ondersteunen de darmintegriteit.
Omega-3 vetzuren
- EPA en DHA zijn onderdeel van celmembranen, fungeren als energiebron, spelen een rol in het immuunsysteem en verbeteren de darmpermeabiliteit.
Bèta-glucanen
- Bèta-glucanen uit paddenstoelen en granen zoals haver en gerst zijn betrokken bij het functioneren van immuuncellen en hebben immuunmodulerende eigenschappen.
Curcuma longa
- Curcumine remt de activatie van NF-kB, COX-2 en ontstekingsbevorderende cytokinen en prostaglandinen.
- Curcumine is een antioxidant en verhoogt het glutathionniveau.
- Curcumine helpt de darmbarrière en cytokineproductie te verbeteren.
Lever
Ernstige leververvetting met ontsteking en fibrose kan invloed hebben op leverfuncties, waaronder de detoxificatie. Verschillende nutriënten kunnen de detoxificatie ondersteunen en de lever beschermen tegen schadelijke stoffen.
B-vitaminen, selenium, magnesium, zink, koper en mangaan zijn micronutriënten die als cofactor nodig zijn voor enzymwerking in ontgiftingsfase 1 en 2. Antioxidanten zoals vitamine C, vitamine E, alfa-liponzuur en co-enzym Q10 beschermen de lever tegen oxidatieve schade.
Mariadistel
- Mariadistel verhoogt de activiteit van fase 2-enzymen in de lever, beschermt tegen glutathiondepletie en beschermt tegen oxidatieve schade.
Cysteïne, glutaminezuur en glycine
- Cysteïne, glutaminezuur en glycine worden in het lichaam omgezet naar glutathion. Glutathion is een belangrijke conjugerende mediator in fase 2.
Zwavelhoudende stoffen
- Zwavelhoudende stoffen zoals thiolen en MSM ondersteunen sulfaatconjugatie in fase 2 van de leverontgifting.
